Members of the Corps supported the Greater London Authority (GLA) last month after the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) was activated due to the recent cold weather.
SWEP is an emergency humanitarian response to severe weather conditions, the primary aim of which is to preserve life for those sleeping on the streets. Each borough is expected to make its own local SWEP provisions for those sleeping rough in the area when the temperature reaches a trigger point (0°C or colder on any one night).
FANYs, working alongside the British Red Cross, are supporting service users overnight at a ‘Warm Space’ provided by Greenwich local council.
