The First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps) (FANY (PRVC)) is delighted to announce that their extensive archives have been moved to the National Army Museum (NAM),becoming part of its National Collection. The move took place in September 2023 following a year-long consultation process. As well as protecting the precious archives in perpetuity, this will ensure easier access for those wishing to view and research the Corps’ 116-year history.
The archives will be housed in the National Army Museum’s secure temperature-controlled environment alongside the documents of many other military collections, with the intention that the collection will be fully catalogued and indexed by the end of 2024. By spring 2025, the Museum intends to have digitised the Corps’ document collection as part of their ongoing digitisation programme. There will be an addition solution for the future preservation and protection of our artefacts that will be shared soon.
Lisa Giles, The Corps’ Commanding Officer, said:
“We couldn’t be happier that our archive documents are now in the safe hands of the National Army Museum.
"The NAM is a leading authority on the British Army and its impact on society past and present, and we are thrilled that the Corps archives are taking their place amongst such important historical documents. We are grateful to everyone involved for all of their hard work in ensuring such a safe future for our historical documentation.”
Justin Maciejewski DSO MBE, Director of the NAM, said:
“The National Army Museum is proud to be the guardians of the FANY (PRVC) archives and to be the institution that makes them accessible to a public audience initially for in person research and later digitally to a global audience.
“We understand the power and significance of the human stories of service to our country by the FANY over the last 100 years. I know this project has involved a lot of work and consideration by both the NAM and FANY over the last year.”
